The Bond Bug 1970 - 1974

Welcome to our new website all about the famous 1970s icon the Bond Bug.

Along with other memorable items like the Raleigh Chopper cycle, The Space Hopper and Slade music this little classic car stands up well as an icon of the 1970s.

The first Bond Bug was introduced to the public June 1970, aimed mainly at the younger motorist. Colours available were orange or orange. The first models were manufactured at the Bond factory in Preston but after a short period production was moved over to the Reliant factory at Tamworth.

The Bond Bug used all the mechanics of a Reliant Regal including the 700cc watercooled engine. Coil spring suspension was used at the rear of the Bond rather than Regal's telescopic damper set up

The Bond Bug however was not as successful as Reliant had hoped and so after some 2,268 vehicles were built manufacture stopped in May 1974, which also brought an end to the Bond name.
